Introduction to the Bash Shell

Everyone who is new to Scientific Computing and NOT familiar with working on the shell - or does not know what this sentence means.

Prerequisites:
None.
Note: Bash-Knowledge is required for the HPC introductory course MOGON Intro 103: Cluster Computing.

This is a 3 h course. See the title for the location and timing.
Syllabus
This course marks the beginning of your journey to mastering the command line! From understanding what a Shell is to practicing your fist Bash commands, you will get a solid understanding of the basics - starting from zero.

After you visited this course, you
- are convinced of the command line's benefits and know several scenarios in which Bash can be helpful to you
- have an idea of the Linux filesystem structure and can reliably use the terminal to navigate the directory tree
- are familiar with handling daily tasks like creating folders and files, moving them around, displaying their contents, and deleting them
- have refreshed best practices regarding file management for reproducible research
